FIREWHISKEY

Under the age of seventeen, young witches and wizards are not permitted to consume Firewhiskey. The drink that provides a burning sensation along with a sense of courage is very strong and only recommended for those of age, in the wizarding world. This recipe for firewhiskey surely gives an overwhelming, but satisfying version of our favorite Firewhiskey brands, Odgen’s Old Firewhiskey and Blishen’s Firewhiskey.

Ingredients

• 1 liter ginger ale
• 1 liter of 7-Up (lemon/lime soda)
• handful of Red Hots or cinnamon candy
• cinnamon sticks
• Cinnamon schnapps or Goldschläger (alcoholic version)

Directions:
Step 1: In a pitcher, mix the ginger ale and 7-up soda. 
Step 2: Add to the ginger/soda mixture, the Red Hots and cinnamon sticks, stirring well. (allowing the Red Hots to dissolve)
Step 3: For the desired amount of tanginess add more or less Red hots and cinnamon sticks.
Step 4: Let steep for 3-4 hours, refrigerated - Serve cold. (over ice, if desired) 
Step 5: ENJOY!

I need to throw a party just so I can make and serve this. Super Bowl, maybe? A friend was saying how when you host a Super Bowl party you end up watching about 5% of the game, which is perfect for me. The lack of seating in my apartment is a problem, though.

So, I’m a hypocrite. Last night I was talking with a friend and he started making jokes about Penn State, like, “When you think about it, one or two little boys a year seems a pretty fair sacrifice for a winning football team.” And even though I knew he wasn’t at all serious, I said, “No—stop. There’s nothing funny about the sexual abuse of children, don’t even try.”

Then today I saw this video—about McGonagall’s lust for little Ron Weasley—and laughed my ass off. Maybe the lesson is that you can make jokes about pedophilia if Britney Spears provides the soundtrack.

• 1981: Lord Voldemort murders James and Lily Potter at Godric’s Hollow and is defeated for the first time when he fails to kill Harry Potter. The First Wizarding War ends.
• 1991: The first year Charms class topic is Wingardium Leviosa, the hover charm. Later, the Halloween feast is interrupted by the arrival of a Mountain Troll. Harry Potter and Ron Weasley save Hermione Granger from the Troll in the girls’ bathroom. Professor Quirrell attempts to steal the Philosopher’s Stone, but is thwarted by Severus Snape, who is attacked by Fluffy as a result.
• 1992: Sir Nicholas de Mimsy Porpington’s 500th Deathday Party takes place in one of the roomier dungeons at Hogwarts, and it is attended by many ghosts, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. Ginny Weasley, under the influence of Tom Riddle’s Diary, opens the Chamber of Secrets for the first time in fifty years. The basilisk that is released from the Chamber petrifies Mrs. Norris.

• 1994: At breakfast time, Fred and George Weasley fail to pass Dumbledore’s Age Line around the Goblet of Fire with an Ageing Potion. Later that day, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger visit Rubeus Hagrid and discover that he has a crush on Olympe Maxime. The Halloween feast takes place at dinnertime and after it, the Goblet of Fire chooses the Triwizard champions - Viktor Krum for Durmstrang; Fleur Delacour for Beauxbatons; Cedric Diggory for Hogwarts and an unexpected fourth champion - Harry Potter.
