A Facebook friend posted a link to this short film by a Phoenix high schooler last night—very appropriate timing. Every day for the two and a half months I was home in Arizona, I would look around and think, “I am so grateful to be here. I am so lucky. I am so happy.” That I had the freedom to quit a dead-end job, leave a misery-making city, get a fresh start in the most gorgeous of settings, with my parent’s love and support to boot… how could I not be thankful? In New York I could logically look around and see all the things I should appreciate (and I did appreciate my friends inside and out—they’re always the exception) but couldn’t feel any gratitude. My Southwestern sabbatical re-taught me how to be thankful—another thing to be thankful for!
TLDR this video is really pretty, watch it and learn why there’s an AZ-shaped hole in my heart.
