I hope Reese has a late career renaissance where she plays against type as a brunette again. Also, I’m desperate to know if dying my hair dark brown will make my eyes as striking as hers. Can someone look into an alternate future reality and report back?

Reese Witherspoon, accepting her MTV Movie Award Generation Award: “Girls, I know it’s cool to be bad, but it’s also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show. When I came up in this business, if you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed and hid it under your bed. And if you took naked pictures of yourself on your cell phone, you would hide your face. For all the girls out there, it’s possible to be a good girl. I’m going to try to make it cool.”

Her red carpet dresses have been so hot that I almost like the movie better in retrospect. That color! Those curves!

Party Dress du Jour:
Reese Witherspoon in a Stella McCartney dress, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry & Christian Louboutin shoes at the UK premiere of Water for Elephants.

Love the dress, but I’m getting sick of the crossed legs pose at every. Single. Premiere. Reese, you’re like a size negative four! You don’t need to twist yourself into a swizzle stick! Stand like a normal human being for a few seconds, please.

So I went to this premiere (for Water for Elephants), and I really wanted to blog about the experience, but first I wanted to find a photo of the back of Reese’s dress. I loved the front, but it was a little too… Disney tween? It looked like something Selena Gomez would wear and you’d say, “Oh, she looks so cute! And age appropriate!”  I like Reese Witherspoon a lot, and love her in Walk the Line, but… I think there’s a gap between her public persona and who she really is. Her public persona: America’s Sweetheart, Perfect Southern Girl who never stops smiling. Who she really is: Total Power Bitch who suffers no fools. I wish she would embrace that inner HBIC a little more as she gets older.

But anyway, the back of the dress: it added just enough sexiness and maturity to quiet all my misgivings about the front, and putting her hair in a polished chignon was the perfect choice. But oh man, she has the skinniest legs I’ve ever seen in real life. Maybe embrace some hamburgers as you get older, too, Reese? Remember when you were sort of curvy in Cruel Intentions? That was nice.

I was pretty meh on this Vogue shoot (not as good as the Walk the Line one, not even close), but this photo is all kinds of awesome. I just wish I could get a better look at that dress.

What a gorgeous bride!

For Alex, if she wasn’t able to find photos of Reese’s dress. I like it ok, but I had such high expectations (Reese! Monique Lhuillier!) that I’m rather disappointed at the lack of “wow” factor. The pale pink—that’s great. The sash—a little expected, but ok. The bodice—that’s where she loses me. It looks like an old-fashioned maternity bra or something, especially in the full-size, high-res version of this photo (yeah, I stole this issue of People magazine out of the inbox of our VP/Publisher. I didn’t think he’d miss it for the five minutes it took to find the dress).

To a certain type of person of a certain age, this scene/song is completely iconic. And I am exactly that certain person, so I need to go buy this movie immediately.

It is one of the great injustices in the world that Reese Witherspoon has only been brunette once. I know that blonde is her signature, but her blue eyes and pale skin looked incredible with her June Carter hair. I wish she’d be more adventurous and go dark again.

In-character photo shoots are usually cheesy and lame, but Vogue killed it with their Walk the Line spread a few years ago. I ripped this out of the magazine and hung it on my bedroom wall, and one time my roommate’s friend (who is, to the day, the worst person I’ve ever met) saw it and said, “They totally fucked, right?” and I was really disgusted and offended. And now I look at it and think, “If they didn’t fuck, they should have.” C’mon Reese, Joaquin needs you to whip his weird ass into shape! Make him walk the proverbial line!

June Carter and Johnny Cash/ Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix

I am watching this movie this weekend. Just FYI.

This slideshow of Stephen Dorff’s 90’s-era photos is pretty priceless, but I am really loving young Reese Witherspoon here. I’m just now noticing her resemblance to Amanda Seyfried—they could have played sisters, or angels whose hair is used to string harps in heaven.
Also: Reese’s shoes and socks in the right picture. Feel free to point and laugh.
